Your rescue crews from Perry Township Fire Dept, Marrs Township Volunteer Fire Department, Black Township Fire & Rescue, and USI Public Safety enjoyed the beautiful 20-degree day to conduct some Ice Rescue training.

When we arrived at the lake at USI, we noticed human footprints had crossed the ice. Thankfully, whoever made them also returned safely. During training, we found the ice thickness varied widely. Some areas were around 6 inches thick, while underwater currents left other spots with an inch or less of ice. That made the training all the more real, knowing how easily an adventure could have taken someone into those hidden current areas. That kind of inconsistency makes it easy to step out with confidence, only to hear cracking and suddenly plunge into icy water.Huge thanks to all the instructors and crews who trained in harsh conditions to make sure we are always ready when our community needs us. ...
