šŸ“° Perry Township Fire Department Newsletter – June 2025 EditionĀ
May brought the heat—and Perry Township Fire brought the teamwork, training, and triumphs. Here’s a rundown of everything we tackled:Ā
  • šŸš’ Double Duty: Fire & EMS Day + House Fire
While visiting students atĀ Perry Heights Middle SchoolĀ for Fire & EMS Day, crews were called to a working house fire and responded without skipping a beat.

  • šŸš‘ Mass Casualty Incident Drill at USI
TheĀ MCI drillĀ at the University of Southern Indiana was a big success, testing our coordination, triage, and communication skills.Ā  šŸŽ„Ā Watch the video

  • šŸ› ļø Extrication Week
Extrication week was a success with a lot of hands-on using our full arsenal of tools—plus newer equipment like theĀ AutoCrib-ItĀ stabilization device.Ā  The van is still in the back parking lot, should anyone want to get an extra cut or practice in before it is hauled off in a few weeks.Ā  Big thanks toĀ Jeff BuenteĀ for capturing the sessions from multiple camera angles. Videos will be available soon!

  • šŸ‘©ā€šŸš’ Welcome, New Members!
We’re proud to welcomeĀ Colin Watson,Ā Sabrina Bartholomew, andĀ Diana ConradĀ to the department—and excited to seeĀ Carissa GoebelĀ andĀ Nick HelfertĀ return to the team.

  • 🐾 Welcome, new pup!Ā Ā Our Support Dog, Kia, will be arrivingĀ July 14.Ā Ā Her handlers will be Jessica and Gary Barr and she will be attending meetings, special events, and Saturday truck checks, along with being available at any request.Ā  Kia is a working dog and will be consistently trained throughout her working days.Ā  While she is working, she is meant to bring a calming experience, and so during her ā€œwork hoursā€ no roughhousing. Also, no snacks, unless approved by handlers.Ā

šŸš’ Apparatus Committee News: Pierce Visit and BeyondĀ
Chief Woehler, Lucas Artman, Adam Smith, and Nathan DeVillezĀ recently traveled toĀ Pierce ManufacturingĀ to explore apparatus options for replacing 7E1. The potential new truck is priced nearĀ $1 millionĀ and comes with detailed specs (seeĀ LucasĀ if you’d like to review them).Ā
While Pierce offered valuable insight, we will also compare other manufacturers. The information gathered will help us make a smart and sustainable decision about the department’s future.Ā

šŸ—žļø Why This Newsletter Exists
We’re starting this monthly newsletter as a better way toĀ keep everyone in the loop, whether you’re at every meeting or haven’t been able to attend in a while. We know it’s easy to feel out of the loop when you miss a training or a board discussion, and that’s something we want to fix. This isĀ yourĀ department, and you deserve to know what’s going on, what’s coming up, and where you can plug in. No one should feel left out—this is about building stronger connections across the whole team.Ā  If you want something added to the July newsletter, simply contact Gary Barr, and it’ll be added.
